Publications
We are opening applications for a two-day Lab in Brussels (3–4 June). It brings together civic educators and civil society practitioners to work on how trust, alliances, and geopolitical narratives shape democratic participation. We will be able to fund participation for a small number of selected participants to attend in person.
Who should apply: civic educators and practitioners in formal or non-formal education, as well as civil society actors, facilitators, and programme leads working on democracy, media and information, history, conflict, or social cohesion, who are willing to test new formats in their own work.

The NECE Festival is an annual event that brings together stakeholders from civil society, politics, academia, media, and culture for an interactive and interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and actions. The festival is held in various European cities and focuses on a specific topic that is highly relevant to civic education.
In 2025, we were exploring HOPE. In 2026, we are focusing on TRUST.

NECE Festival 2025: HOPE
The NECE Festival 2025: HOPE took place in Oslo from 2 to 4 September 2025 in cooperation with The European Wergeland Centre (EWC). Civic educators, activists, and changemakers from across Europe came together to reflect on the role of hope in civic education and democratic participation. The festival featured a diverse programme, including engaging panel discussions, hands-on masterclasses, and powerful art interventions led by young people. At the Action Hub, projects were presented in a lively market format, while the new format, Open Space, gave every participant the chance to shape and implement their own sessions. The next NECE Festival on the topic of TRUST will take place in Lisbon from 14 to 16 October 2026.
